1. Hiring the right employee - proven techniques to improve your hiring
Our January article of the month on the Profits Plus website is entitled, "Hiring the right employee".

Personnel. Other than inventory, personnel is the largest expenditure a business will have. And just as you can make the wrong decision as your purchase inventory, you can make incorrect decisions about who you hire.

Visit the website this month, via the link above, and you can read our business advisory article of the month.

2. e-ret@iler advisory of the month - Choice advertising words
Those of you who have heard Tom speak know he believes advertising needs to be much more than just selecting a few items and then picking a price. Advertising is a science. While few will have the opportunity to get the schooling to master this science, we can benefit from the books the masters of advertising have written.

Here are a half dozen of the "magic" words they can make your advertising more successful.

Discover - When you discover something, it is an exciting experience. Notice the credit card, magazine, and television network with this name?

You (your) - Remember when a customer shops with you, the key to success is answering the "What is in it for me?" question. When you use this word, and variations of it, you stress the importance of the customer.

Proven - Customers like to know they are not the guinea pig. If they want to take a chance they can go gambling.

New - That which is new is the best.

Secret - Think about the number of seminars you have attended where you have been invited to learn "the secrets of …" Anything that is forbidden or guarded is desirable.

Fast - Who wants to wait? Works fast, fast delivery, etc. Why is FedEx such a success?

Next month, we will have some more words to add to this list for you.

Small Business

AdvisoriES

Every time I see the logo for Target stores, I think about small businesses and the need to know which people to target as their customers. Of course, of most importance is the person who has spent any money with your business.

I ask businesses if they know how much the average person spends with their business. Most offer a quick response with a dollar amount. That answer is incorrect as they are telling me what the average existing customer is spending. The average person in any community spends no money with that small business.

Looking for new customers without any plan of how to do so is just spending money. That is why every small business needs to know how to find and use information. Find ideas in the March Small Business Advisory.
